5 Brilliant Soft Skills to Land Your Dream Job
The hiring process has changed over the years. Being book smart and intelligent alone cannot help you land your dream job. IQ and EQ are equally important now. There are various skills taken into consideration before hiring a candidate, especially soft skills.
Before applying to your dream job, make sure to polish and develop these soft skills:
- Communication: It can be classified into two parts –
- Written Communication: Written communication is initially analyzed from the resume and cover letter that you submit. The best way to reflect good written communication skills is to frame and present a proper resume that highlights the keywords related to the job and all the relevant achievements. A good resume and cover letter can score you an interview with your dream organization.
- Verbal Communication: After getting shortlisted for an interview, the most significant skill to focus on is your verbal communication and spoken English. It is important to use formal language while communicating with employers. Both the language and the way you communicate are equally important.
- Teamwork and Collaboration: A lot of big organizations conduct group discussions before the personal interview. During group discussions, it is important to show your employer that you are a team player who is willing to collaborate with the team and present their ideas to others in a considerate manner. Even in a personal interview refrain from using too many “I” statements, and try using more “we” statements for example, instead of saying “I accomplished” use the sentence “we accomplished”.
- Strong Work Ethic: This is one of the most crucial soft skills. A good work ethic is a sum of punctuality, determination, dedication, integrity and professionalism. Most of the work ethics are just inbuilt in your personality but some of them you have to develop and learn from your experience, surroundings and books.
- Persuasion: The ability to convince the interviewer to hire you might sound easy, but it is more than just a cakewalk. The way you respond to the questions is what finally decides the faith of the interview. It is always a good idea to practice the interview questions beforehand; because you only get one shot at the personal interview.
- Problem Solving: Throughout the interview try to be a part of the solution. If there are no problems to solve, tell the interviewer about the challenges you faced and how you solved them , break down your answers in steps so it is easier for the interviewer to follow through. This will definitely make you stand out. A lot of companies and organizations ask the candidate to provide a solution or feedback on a new product or service, so be prepared for that beforehand.
